O'Malley to Discuss Living Wage in Advance of Holiday
posted 5:55 am Fri August 31, 2007 - Annapolis, MD.
Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley is celebrating Labor Day a little early Friday, calling reporters to hype a new living wage law that could boost the pay of some state contractors. The law is the first statewide living wage requirement in the nation.

Backed by O'Malley, it requires contractors seeking business with the state to pay at least $8.50 an hour.

ABC 7 News myTAKE - What's Your Opinion? In the most expensive parts of the state, from Washington to Baltimore, the wage will be even higher, $11.30 an hour.

The law takes effect October First.

O'Malley plans to promote the new law in a news conference at an AFL-CIO office near the state Capitol.

Big WHOOP! The contractors just charge the state more. How about boosting the wages of your underpaid state employees???? I am not against the low paid getting more money but he acts like he is such a saint for doing this. Any fool knows who will pay for it - the tax payers.
