Cigarette to Blame for 3-Alarm Fire
posted 9:37 am Tue August 14, 2007 - Washington
D.C. Fire Investigators say a cigarette is to blame for last Tuesday's three-alarm fire that damaged a portion of a popular Capitol Hill restaurant and a gift shop.
Investigators say
the improper disposal of a cigarette caused a tarp covering some furniture behind the Capitol Lounge to catch fire, causing an estimated $90,000 in damage.
The Lounge was the scene of another, serious fire that was caused by a cigarette two years ago.
The incident is prompting Fire Chief Dennis L. Rubin to urge lawmakers to pass safe-cigarette legislation.
