'Pants' Lawsuit Defendants Raise Money for Legal Fees
posted 4:55 pm Mon August 13, 2007 - Washington, DC
The owners of a D.C. dry cleaner who were sued $54 million over a missing pair of pants have raised enough money to pay most of their legal fees.

The owners of Custom Cleaners had sought nearly $83,000 from Roy Pearson to recover the costs of successfully defending themselves from the 2005 lawsuit. But in a court filing Monday, the Chungs' attorneys said a cocktail fundraiser last month brought in $70,000. That money, combined with other donations, raised enough cash to cover most of the Chungs' expenses.

ABC 7 News myTAKE - What's Your Opinion? The defendants say they wanted to put the matter behind them and are urging Pearson not to appeal a trial judge's verdict in the case.

Pearson, a local administrative law judge, initially demanded $67 million from the Chungs, but later reduced the amount to $54 million.

If there were truly justice in this world, Pearson would be made to pay ALL of the expenses incurred by the dry cleaners over this fiasco.
