Cardin, Johnson Get Involved in Anacostia Cleanup

Maryland Senator Benjamin Cardin and Prince George's County Executive Jack Johnson getting involved in efforts to clean up the Anacostia River.
Cardin and Johnson got a firsthand look at what needs to be done on a boat tour Wednesday.
Tons of trash and sediment have built up in the river over years of neglect.
Johnson says Prince George's will deploy the river's first trash trap, a floating device that collects garbage in nets.
If it works the way it's supposed to, he'll push for more.
The traps cost $35,000 each and officials with the Anacostia Watershed Society say 12 to 15 are needed along the Anacostia and its tributaries in Montgomery, Prince George's and the District.
Cardin is pushing for more than $800,000 for wetlands restoration in the Anacostia watershed and a study on how to clean up the rest of the river.
