Fairfax City Police Bust Alleged Police Impersonator
posted 5:12 pm Wed July 25, 2007 - Fairfax, Va.
City of Fairfax Police have charged a man with impersonating a police officer after he was spotted driving in a police-type car and even allegedly flashed a badge when confronted by police.
A police Sergeant observed 36-year-old Frank Antia in the parking lot of the Staples store at 9470 Fairfax Boulevard Tuesday morning in what officers say appeared to be an unmarked police vehicle.
The sergeant ran the vehicle's registration and became suspicious when it revealed the car was registered to a private individual.
According to police when officers stopped the vehicle, Antia displayed a badge and claimed to be an Amelia County, Virginia, deputy sheriff. Subsequent investigation revealed Antia was no longer employed by the Amelia County Sheriff's Office and has been working for a private security firm.
Authorities are investigating whether Antia approached anyone and claimed he was a police officer. Police say the defendant does not match any reported police impersonator incidents.
The white Ford Crown Victoria was equipped with red, blue and white light, antennas and other police equipment. Tape covered portions of the vehicle's Texas license plate. Numerous pieces of police equipment were found in the vehicle, and the emergency lights and siren were found to be fully operational.
Antia, of Amelia Court House, Virginia, is being held without bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center
