D.C. firefighters rescued two elderly residents from a house fire in northwest Monday night.
Fire officials say flames broke out shortly before midnight on the back porch of the home in the 1700 block of Kenyon Street, northwest. The blaze eventually spread to the second story of the house where a man and a woman were living inside.

Paramedics transported both to the hospital for mild cases of smoke inhalation.
