Graham Calls for Restaurant's Closure Following Shooting
posted 5:01 pm Fri June 29, 2007 - Washington
A Friday morning shooting at a 24-hour restaurant in Northwest has D.C. Councilman Jim Graham calling for the business's closure.
District police say an argument between two people led to gunfire at Joe's Restaurant around 2:40 am.
The victim, identified as 29-year-old Mark Richardson was inside of the restaurant when he was hit by gunfire. He died at an area hospital.
Police are checking surveillance video from a camera near the intersection of Ninth and "T" streets to see if it captured images of anything that could aid their investigation.
Graham says the restaurant is "notorious and dangerous," dating back to shooting and violence that have occurred at that location in the past. Graham says two men were wounded at the restaurant in March when it operated under a different name.
Graham is renewing his calls to have the restaurant permanently closed under the nuisance provisions of the District's drug laws.
